Okay so its about time for me to change my tires and i've started to look at tires again but the places are not giving me the info im looking for so ive decided to ask you guys what kind of tires are you guys driving on. I have si rims and currently have on them are falken 512 195/50/15. these tires were a bad choice cuz they r the loudest tires ive had in my life. felt like i was driving with offroad tires. so far ive read that a lot of people are like the yoko s drive but im wondering if they are quiet. the main thing is i want them to be as quiet as possible. i live in so cal so no snow to worry about.
oh and one last thing i found somewhere that someone was putting 205/50/15 on their 15" si rims is that possible?

i have 205/50/15 on my si's on my hatch with no issues, I am not that low though

205 50 would fit fine on an Si wheel.



I always recommend Dunlop Direzza DZ101. Not too loud, great grip for an all season tire, and they last a long time if youre aligned.

Here they are on my brothers DR20 and my ex GF's Si wheel

from what i remember my s drives werent very loud. my current hankook v12's are pretty quiet too.

Also check out Toyo Proxes. Those are my personal favorite.

Hankook V2's all damn day long. Sticky, quiet, and an amazing all season tire. They're discontinued, so they're a pain in the *** to find, but if you can't get your hands on a set, the V12's are almost as good.

The yokohama s. drives are very quiet. I loved those tires. They rode great, quiet, and tire rack says you even get an extra mpg.

I'm on BFG KDW and I wouldn't trade them, but I need the extra grip.

It's all about compromise. If you want more grip you'll trade comfort.

The Yokohama S. Drive is the best daily driving summer tire as far as I'm concerned. I haven't tried the Dunlop Star spec as it's not made in my size, and the DZ01 doesn't rank very well IIRC compared to the star spec or the KDW with regard to dry traction.

will the 205 reduce mpg cuz i mean it is a wider tire so that means more friction than the 195 so in theory i will get a less mpg.

Nice ill have to check out the tires you guys mentioned. because on tirerack the reviews are kind of iffy so thats why im asking HT what tires you guys have for dd. cuz the last time i went with there reviews were my falkens and they r too loud i need something quiet but has grip.

Toyo makes over 8 different tires that all share the Proxes name, and makes blanket endorsements such as this absolutely useless.

Proxes 4 tires are terrible. Their only redeeming quality is a super soft sidewall, which is only good for people who regret their suspension decision.

Actually, a wider tire has less "friction", if we're talking about mileage effects.

A narrower tire must deform more, which increases internal friction and rolling resistance, and decreases city mileage accordingly.

A wider tire has worse aerodynamics, reducing highway mileage.

Customer reviews are frequently worthless.

The good tires are only purchased by people expecting race car tires for the street, and are often disappointed with the result. They wear fast, their loud, etc...

Crappy tires are bought by people who don't know better, and are completely happy with them because the tires are round and hold air.

Expectations radically color reviews.

You're thinking too hard about it. The tire compound is what will really effect fuel efficiency.

This is why I like Tire Rack's tests.

so i was checking out the tires and found that the hankooks are pretty good but the sad thing is that they dont make them in 15". i was getting set to buy a set but it seems that hankook doesnt make them in 15". so i think im back to the drawing board.

I'm in the market for a new set of tires. My pickiness is, as usual, making it a much larger task than it needs to be.

I'd really like to go with another set of S.drives, but I'm looking to go back to a 205/50/15. On the last set they were on national backorder so I had to go 195/55/15. That extra little bit of height was just enough to make them catch the fender liners now and again. 195/50's are just too short, I don't feel like lowering the car any more.

The only thing that bugs me is the price difference between the 195/55's and the 205/50's... its on the order of 20% more per tire for the size change. I'm starting to look at the DZ101's a little, they seem like more of a value but the reviews are mixed... that being said I tend to take the reviews with a grain of salt since they are so self-selecting. Does anyone have any back to back input that they'd like to share?

I really wish Kumho never quit making the spt in my size... what a killer tire for the money

Yes a 205 will fit, no it will not affect your gas milage, its only 10mm wider thats like l l that much, I personally recommend the Nitto Neo-gen I have had 3 sets they ride well and quietly, are fairly sticky especially when warm, and if you are lowered they resist camber wear very well, they are designed to, pretty cheap too.
