Summer tires for DC2
Hey guys, I'm in the market for some new tires for the spring. I've got studded snow tires for Winter, so I'm looking at pure performance summer tires, as they won't be used in cold/icey weather.
I'm looking at the Yokohama S Drives and also the Fuzion ZRi tires.. I'd like to keep the prices around what these run (around 70$ give or take)
These are going on stock fat fives as well, so 15 inch tires.. I haven't done a lot of research, should I stay with the stock recommended tire size, or would you guys recommend bigger?
I'm also up for other tire brand suggestions, I just want the best tire for the money for summer spirited runs. No tracking or racing.

Yup, you're looking at two of the best. You can get stickier tires but they'll cost more and won't last as long.
Yup, 195/55-15 or 205/50-15. The S.drive comes in both sizes and is cheaper in 195/55. The ZRi only comes in 205/50.
The Tire Rack did a side-by-side comparison test including both of these tires: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...ay.jsp?ttid=97 They offer similar performance on dry pavement; the ZRi is a bit better in most of the wet tests.

Those tires offer excellent performance, but they are NOT a good recommendation for someone looking for the best summer tire for the money. They exceed the OP's desired price point, and they will only last about half as long as the tires he's considering. Remember, not everyone has the same priorities, so you need to take each individual person's needs into account when recommending a tire.

Bumping this old thread because it's time for new tires again. I went with the Yokohama S Drives last and was pretty happy with them. Wondering if there are any new recommendations?

I ca vouch for the dz101s as well. They feel great and the sidewalls have a nice lip at the bead to help protect the rim from curb rash (as far as I can tell, never curbed my car lol)
