Should I just go to steel rims?
I had planned to get my alloy rims powder coated (in a neat, custom 2-tone) but now I've been told by a powder coating company that an alloy rim, being pitted and corroded, is not the best candidate. My rims are VERY pitted and corroded! I have to wire wheel each backside (where it meets hub) during tire rotation due to corrosion build up! *Otherwise the two surfaces will not mate and the lug nuts will loosen badly for days.
So, should I just get a second set of steel rims and run those---one set of steelies for spring, summer, and fall with all-season tires and one set of steelies with winter tires for winter?
I could get the steel rims powder coated rather cheaply.
*At the moment I plan to wire wheel and paint my OEM alloy wheels and have a tube put into each tire to stop the air leaks I have (due to pitting around the bead?).
What say you guys and gals?
