Default re-11 vs: star spec vs: rs-2 vs: etc

are the re-11's worth 50 bucks more per tire than the star spec dunlops? and how do the rs-2 hankook's since they are in the "extreme summer" categorey on tire rack and come in the 225 50 15's i am considering running,

thanks alot: p.s. looking for the best grip from a dig(i know all these will handle great, but id like the best chance of putting the power down in a straight line as added bonus)

The Dunlop Star Spec is king of the hill right now. They certainly deliver more grip (wet and dry) than the RE-01R, but I will hold my judgement whereas it will beat the RE-11 until I have a chance to test it.

According to Bridgestone, the RE-11 does improve over the RE-01R in cornering, understeer, and total performance at the limit, but we'll see.

The RS-2 is an economical choice but it doesn't have the same capabilities as the Dunlop and the Bridgestones.

It's a big difference in price, and I'm expecting any difference in performance will be small. I'm looking forward to seeing a Tire Rack comparison test. Of course, whether something is worth it depends a lot on your finances as well as your priorities.

The R-S2 Z212 is nowhere near as sticky. That's why Hankook is discontinuing it, and why they are replacing it with the new Ventus R-S3 Z222.

thank you, i had a good feeling about the star specs but i just had to ask, and the hankooks i guess it never hurts to ask.

car is a 1999 hatchback civic, tire size will be 235 40 17, right now i am trying to figure out what offset will clear the rear qtr panels

Wow, that's really really huge for that car! In addition to the problems with clearance, that tire size will also hurt your acceleration and throw off the accuracy of your speedometer/odometer, you know. 205/40-17 is the best match to the outer diameter of the stock tires, so it won't hurt your acceleration or gauge accuracy, it won't rub with the proper wheel offset, and you can get the Falken Azenis RT-615 in that size.

more tire=more fun

car is not stock, its not d series or even b series, its not going to hurt the acceleration, its hopefully going to do a better job of taming the acceleration

The extra 30 mm of tread width won't make all that much difference - and if it's rubbing, that's no fun at all.

What you mean to say is, it really IS going to hurt the acceleration - it's like putting taller gears on the car - but you have enough that you don't mind a little slower acceleration.

Hey, it's your car, you can put whatever you want on it. Just remember, the tire dealer isn't going to give you your money back if they rub because you tried mounting oversized tires on your car.

i had the Z1 Star Specs on my RSX-S and they were grippy and feels solid on high speeds and intense cornering..
