Do you apply anti-seize to your wheel studs / nuts?
Hey guys,
Since a lot of us are DIY'ers around here, I made this video because I've seen this topic pop up on a few forums over the years. I'm sure we've all taken our wheels off and put them back on at some point... and some people apply anti-seize...
See for yourself how effective anti-seize is at reducing friction and leading to possible over tightening of your lug nuts. Experimentally I observed a 30% increase in preload with just a dab of anti-seize on the threads. It could be enough to permanently damage your studs. I personally never apply anti-seize to my wheel studs / nuts. It could be quite dangerous if your lug nut torque is a dry rated torque spec!
Stay safe!

It's a bad idea to use ANY type of lubricant on lugs or studs.
You should absolutely clean the threads in your lug nuts and on the studs each time you have them apart, but avoid using anything that might lubricate the threads and lead to over tightening and stretching of the threads.

I once used anti-sieze on wheel studs when I was young and dumb, and almost lost a wheel while driving, so yeah not a good idea. Apparently the nuts loosen up very easily.
