cheaper tire brands are they any good?
obviously people use them all the time tires such as nangang westlake milestar ohtsu
are there any tires that are worth looking at?
im mostly concerned about corner traction and wet handling
its not that hard to make a tire that does decent in dry hot weather so im not looking for those ratings

Not if you're looking for corner traction and wet handling. Cheap tires are just that, cheap tires. They'll get you from point A to point B, but they'll wear funny, weather quickly, and not have as much useable life.
Generally you get what you pay for with tires. You CAN find decent deals on tires if you look hard enough though.

What are you looking for? A street tire that has decent wet traction?
Go to tirerack.com, pop in your tire size, start reading reviews, watch the performance reviews of the tires they have, etc. You'll find the info you need.
If you stick to 'name brand' (Michelin, BFGoodrich, Bridgestone, Pirelli, Dunlop, Goodyear (Think F1 tire companies ) you can't really go wrong, and they have tires for every budget. From there, It's finding the best deal on the tires you decide to go for.

if you don't care for better quality, buy whatever you can afford...used, new or whatever. Give or take, a new set of good tires will run around $300.

As far as wet traction goes the Uniroyal Rainsport is popular here in the UK. I've seen a few guys use them for pouring wet trackdays with lots of positive feedback. I believe they may wear a bit quicker though.

Traction, and weather, and treadware characteristics are marked on the side of the tire. Cheap doesn't mean it's a bad tire. Some expensive brand name tires are complete crap. So it depends. Through the years, I have trained my eyes to stay away from tires with rather large seperated lugs on the edge of the tire. Those are the ones I see cup, and get noisey from lower inflation than what is recommended on the tire. Other than that, not much difference when they have the same characters on the tire as far as I'm concerned. However, I have always been a Michelin fan. They seem quieter, and the sidwalls are squishier than most if that makes any sence?

1.) Look up tire specs and performance ratings at TireRack.com, then read reviews
2.) Order the ones you want from simpletire.com to get the best prices and free shipping, or call around places you want to install them and try to get a price match
I've ordered Sumitomo's a few times and have been pleased with them. Very well priced and always highly rated with good reviews. They are the maker of Dunlop tires.
