Hey everyone,

I am new to the Honda scene as well as HT and I am building an EK hatch after making the jump from the VW community.

Anyways, I am looking at a set of wheels that are 16x7.5 +14 front 16x8.5 +14 rear. I know very little about typical Honda offsets so far but am hoping to learn more. I was hoping some of you guys could tell me whether or not you think this could work? If so, would we be talking pulling and rolling fenders or more involved fender work? Finally, if this will not work, I may have the ability to get 16x8 +30 in the front instead. Would this be better?

There are no 16" tire sizes for a '96-00 Civic that can be safely mounted on 16x8.5 wheels. The best 16" tire sizes for your car are 205/45-16, which needs to be mounted on wheels 6.5-7.5 inches wide, or 215/45-16, which must be mounted on wheels 7.0-8.0 inches wide. Your best bet is to find yourself a set of four 16x7 wheels and you'll be able to use them with tires in either of these sizes. (If you get 16x8, you'll be limiting yourself to 215/45-16, for which tire availability is extremely limited.)

So to change my question, what is a good range to stay in when running 8 inch wide wheels for the EK if I want to be close to flush? Thanks!

I am running 16x8 with +35 offset all around
tires are 205/45/16 fits no problem, but you i had to roll my rear fenders a bit.
my traction bars are 2.8inches off the ground. lips lower.
front is -4 camber and rear is -5 and its slammed

Wrong. It IS a problem to mount tires on wheels that are too wide for the tire, and that's what you're doing. Excessive heat can develop in the sidewalls and lead to tire failure (popping the bead, or an actual blowout, etc). Maybe you'll be lucky and this won't happen, but it's a significant risk. Definitely NOT recommended.

does anyone know what hub size a 1990 civic si has? do all civics have the same hub size?

I believe all older Civics, including the 1990, have a 56.1 mm wheel centerbore (and hub) . I do not know exactly when they went to five-lug wheels and a larger (70.3 mm) diameter centerbore (on at least some models), but I know it was quite a few years later.

speaking of revival, i have a question as well!! hopefully i dont get flamed for asking on your thread, i dont think its considered stealing is it? i apologize in advance.. but question: would 195/50/15 look rediculous on 15x6.5 on a teggy? any stretching? would the tires look too meaty?

nothing wrong with that tire size, im running 205/50/15 on my integra and its perfectly fine.

To the OP i just got a set of wheels also thats 16x7+23 and 16x8 +27, i think im going to run 205/45/16 tires. as far as pulling goes im not sure how much i might have to pull to run that but i know for sure im going have to roll. Let me know how your progress turns out maybe it can help me out Good luck!

195/50-15 and 205/50-15 are different diameter tires.

205/50-15 is much closer to the stock diameter than 195/50-15.

So yes, it is the wrong size of an Integra. I have 205/40-16s on mine right now, and the speedometer is off by over 4%. The same would be true with a 195/50-15. Both of those sizes are much better on an older Civic than on an Integra.

so it shows your going slower than u actually are? also what size / offset is your wheels?

Nope, the opposite. The tire is smaller in diameter than stock, so the speedometer reads high. It also means that the odometer shows more miles than the car has actually driven.

Not sure why you care about my offset and size, but they're 16x7 +40 Rota Slipstreams. I also use 16x7 +42 5Zigen GN+ wheels, which do have the correct 205/45-16 sized tires, but rubbing killed 2 and I haven't bought replacements yet, so the wheels with the wrong sized tires are being used for now.

Hey guys, I have one more question that I figured I would place in here to avoid adding another thread to the forum.

I am now looking at getting wheels that are 16x7 +50 but would be switching out for 2" lips so the wheels would then be 16x8. I understand that offset is not exactly easy to calculate if you do not have the wheels with you to measure accurately, but I was hoping you guys could help me get a ballpark figure before I go and buy these. I know that offset is the distance from the center of a wheel to the mounting surface. Since the center of the wheel is going from 3.5" from the inner lip to 4" the only problem I may encounter will be rubbing on the outside. I was guestimating that I will be somewhere north of the equivalent of a 16x7 +25? If I am mistaken in anyway please let me know, I am far from being a master at this stuff and would love to learn anything I can from you guys. Thanks again for all the help.

with that being said, does it mean its not safe when people stretch their tires? their are people on here that run 205/40/16 on 8" wide wheels.

wait, correct me if im wrong but you said 205/50 and 195/50 are different diameters? i thought that 3 digit number calculated the width of the tire?

It is not safe to mount tires on wheels that are wider (or narrower) than the rim widths specified as the approved range by the tire's manufacturer.

Most 205/40-16 tires (not all, but most) are approved for mounting on 16x8 rims. Most 205/45-16 tires are not. Don't ask me why this is, but it is.

205/40-16 (as well as 195/45-16) is the best 16" size for CRXs, del sols, and '95 or older Civics. 205/45-16 (as well as 215/45-16) is the best 16" size for Integras and '97-00 Civics.

On a 195/50-15 tire, the tire is 195 mm wide, the wheel is 15" in diameter, and the tire sidewall is 195 * .50 = 97.5 mm tall. Because 205/50-15 has taller sidewalls than 195/50-15 (102.5 mm sidewalls vs 97.5 mm sidewalls), the outer diameter of the 205/50-15 tire is 10 mm larger than the 195/50-15 tire. (The outer diameter equals the wheel diameter plus two times the sidewall height.)

195/55-15, which is the stock size for most of them.

Come on people, this isn't hard. The stock Integra tire size is 23.4" in diameter. Stay within 2% of that, and call it good.

Nope. But I instruct at a lot of track events, and I know a lot of the folks who work at Tire Rack (they come to the same events here in the Midwest).
