Wet and dry lay ups
What is the difference in appearance between a wet lay-up and a dry lay-up when they are finished?

Re: Wet and dry lay ups
I don't know that the question is really worded properly. If you mean dry, as in pre-preg which is vac bagged and autoclaved, then it's got a generally thinner (for a given weave), more uniform and flat/dull appearance. Wet layup has an excess of resin, is thicker/heavier (for a given weave), less uniform but will take on the surface of the mold it's in and be shiny/glossy. Either can be clear coated though and have a very clean appearance.

Thanks for the reply, i was also unsure at the question which is why i wanted to ask it. Does it make any more sense if i asked, 'What are the different cosmetic finishes between a wet and dry lay-up?'

Re: Wet and dry lay ups
there is no difference depending on how you do it and depending on what process you choose.
wet lay up an vacuum bag is ok.... usually will get pin holes on the surface pre preg will also give you pin holes. face coat or in mold clear/ gel coat will give any process a perfect finish. |
