It's used to vent blowby gasses that come from the engine. This is all related to ring gaps. If you vent the pressure of these gasses power is free'd up.

That's the plain and simple approach.

I dunno what the deal is with more than one...?? Come on now! Defenitely not necessary. No way any street motors need 2...posibbly on full race engines, but then youd have a vaccuum pump. Seems a little rediculous to me.

Actually, the goal it to get as much pressure out of the motor as possible. 2 will get pressure out faster then 1.

im more curious why people leave these open to free air, and dont have a baffled closed setup that has vacuum pulled from the intake. if you want to get rid of positive pressure in the head, pulling it out would be more effective than just venting it.

also, do the endyn type, back of the block setups vent? or does vacuum get hooked to them? or are they just drain backs...?

With the Endyn setup you have the option of a closed PCV can or a vented/filtered can.

You're right though. Pulling a vac on the head is the best way to evecuate crankcase pressures. Since it is expensive this is the next best thing. There are no bad side effects to running a vented catch can.

how is running a closed system to your manifold expensive?
or were you talking about the endyn kit?

and i know no bad effects, but possibly no good ones in some cases. think about that.
