Turbo Manifold builders question
Ok I have left the Honda world (except my Honda powered mini) and moved on to bigger better things. Anyways I am surprised at the quality and limited choices of manifolds when you get away from Hondas. Do you make any turbo manifolds for Chevy "ls" v8's and if not why the **** not??? Nobody makes twin turbo manifolds, people run flipped truck manifolds, mig'd logs ect. The flipped truck mani's make a nice single setup but for twins not so much.

Re: Turbo Manifold builders question
Get a nice custom set made. And please don't do what everyone here does and use schedule 40. We currently have a grand national in the shop getting twin turbo headers fabricated. Equal length, stainless stepped headers.

Re: Turbo Manifold builders question
I think the reason you won't find many premade v8 turbo headers is because of all the variations...ford engine in a chevy, chevy engine in a ford, different angled heads, different shaped exhaust ports, etc. With Hondas, you have like 2 or 3 chassis (eg, ef, ek) and mostly either sohc or dohc.

They Chevy ls has the same ports but you are right in saying people put them in everything and you could be right in chassis fitment issues. I still think if you made a tight package it would fit every old muscle car out there.

I'm sorry, I was referring to aftermarket heads as well. They seem to all have something different about them whether it's the bolt pattern or the port.

No no, it's good. Any idea is welcome here. I think with a little layout planing and some work any high quality fabricator could have himself a gold mine if it was promoted on the pro touring/ls websites. Might take a few adjustments to get them to fit 90% of the chassis out there but still very doable.

I agree. Every car that comes in our shop is a one-off job. From the flange to the diameter to the material and style. Most customers just tell me where they want their turbos mounted and we go from there.
But I agree, there can easily be a generic set that fits fairly well. Even more so if it's a single turbo setup.

Re: Turbo Manifold builders question
If I had a fab shop around here I would just do that but it's not a option for me. I'm a ok fabricator myself but I'm picky and I know my limits. I could do a single truck mani cross over setup easy but not what I'm looking for.

Not really no. A few options and nothing that interests me. If you know of some post them up. Front mount singles bolted to truck manifolds (no room for that) a log passengers side fed from the drivers side from looping behind the trans if you had a t56. Only others are full headers with the turbos mounted way up front and pipes and down pipes everywhere in the bay. None make sense to me

Re: Turbo Manifold builders question
I don't think he said he could not find any at all. But most of the ones that are available are very limited and specific to the stock heads and a specific chassis. Not like a full race ram horn t3 that you can use it in any chassis with basically any t3 turbo.
And probably 70% of the kits out there mount the turbos under the rear bumper.

Re: Turbo Manifold builders question
The reason you don't see that many manifolds for v8 domestics is
1) truck manifolds can make up to 1500whp
2) obx headers are good enough since the manifolds typically don't support any weight
3) the people who WOULD make the most out of these manifolds have them custom made from people who only build custom cars/parts for high dollar drag cars ($250k+)
When you have 120 cu in, you need to squeeze out every bit of efficiency that you can. When you have 350+ cu in, maximum efficiency doesn't matter

Re: Turbo Manifold builders question
I never said pump gas. And neither did you (until just now). If you're looking for an answer why, I've answered it. It seems like you just want to argue now.
If you were working with 5l+ and wanted 800whp-1000whp on pump gas on your street car, would you use $50 truck manifolds, or $1500 tubulars? It's easily achievable. It's not pushing anything to an extreme, and it's proven to work. And the "better" manifold won't net you any major gains. Why bother spending more.
If you were working with 1.8-2.0l and wanted 300whp, would you use a $100 china-log or would you use a $800 tubular. It's easily achievable. It's not pushing anything to an extreme, and it's proven to work. And the "better" manifold won't net you any major gains. Why bother spending more.

Re: Turbo Manifold builders question
A lot of times too it's just easier and cheaper to flip a standard set of standard manifolds and create a merge pipe to feed the turbos. However, Stainless Worx, SSAutochrome, KB racing and hooker etc all offer turbo headers for all sorts of builds. A lot of times even the bigger companies don't list all available applications on web catalogs because of the hundreds of combination variations like was mentioned above. Contacting any of the big header fab companies will net you a wealth of information on specific options and pricing for what you need. I personally have limited experience with LSx setups but we did build a twin turbo LS powered fox body using Stainless Works FF manifolds/headers and it was amazing fit & finish wise. Made crazy power too!

Re: Turbo Manifold builders question
I'd still never buy anything off the shelf...for any of my builds that it. The results of a custom spec'd manifold for the specific turbo and specific setup will always outperform a off the shelf unit And on top of that, it will look 100x better.
