Default throttle actuated scoop

I was just brainstorming ways to improve the airflow my intake can receive and I have always kinda wanted to make a hood scoop that pops out of the hood when throttle is applied... a la 1970 Chevelle SS

not sure if I want to go with the cowl, or have a forward facing scoop.

dont know about attaching it to the throttle, but iv'e been thinking about pluming a cold air intake into a ram air scoop in the front bumper but using a exhaust cut out (electric or manual) to divert it when its raining out. that way it doesnt HAVE to open every time you hit the gas

would a civic have enough vacuum pressure to actuate one? I could always buy a replica part for it then rob the mechanism

you could also actuate it with boost if you have a turbo car

whats vacuum pressure?? j/k it would depend on how big the diaphragm in the actuator is. think about your brake booster that adds a **** ton of pressure to the master cylinder piston.

oh and you would probably want vac to hold it closed so when your on the gas the vac releases and opens the scoop.

you could probably buy a used waste gate actuator or any vacuum actuator and adapt it cheaper than buying a replica for the chevelle

i had to read that over twice to get what I said lol.

I agree with what your saying it makes sense, what could I tap into that wont have ill effects?

The car is supercharged btw.

what kind of charger/do you still have decent vac at idle? as long as you have vac at idle even if its small you could use a vac resevoir with a one way valve to hold the vac untill needed.

also look into all the 70's-90's cars with pop up headlights, almost all of them are vacuum actuated.

just tap into anything coming off the IM or use a vac block if you want it to look a little cleaner

1981 Camaro Z28 had the same thing. There was a reverse buldge on the hood, and a flap that opened at the base of the windshield when the pedal was stomped. My brother in law had one, and I was always trying to talk him into gassing it to open the flap. It made the coolest induction noise.

You could also use a pneumatic cylinder. Modern cylinders don't care much if they are operated by pressure or vacuum.

you can make it electronic, basically have it on a wot switch and then have it open using a solenoid. and on that switch, u can put a toggle so that when it's raining it doesn't have to open. just a suggestion

if you are savvy with electrical engineering... Using the reading from the TPS to control a servo.
