Re: Post you best welds!!!!!!!
If you cant handle constructive criticism maybe you shouldnt weld at all. Anyone can make a weld look good on thick t joints and fillets I want to see .065 wall pipe
these are just some i had on my phne, i dont mind helping peple get better at welding, but just realize im going to look at stuff like a consumer. and half of the welds here arent that great, i think in order to become better you dont need a bunch f ppl telling u how great u really arent.

The color of your welding shows that you had insufficient back purging, insufficient gas flow over the exterior of the weld or you were using too much heat - and probably a combination of those. Granted most areas look decent.
Based on the photo, I would lean toward too much heat as the photo in the first/last picture looks convex.
Just constructive criticism. Your welding looks functional but not very high on a cosmetic scale.

I hope you were posting pictures of your welds, knowing that you have a long way to go still also. Let's see the inside of that X-pipe junction for fun.

I hear you. I love your high horse. I've fired my fair share of you, "pro weldors". It's that bad assery mentality that will get you in trouble.
I haven't really stopped to take pictures of anything in a good while. What would you like pictures of?
Laying a bead is the easy part. It's the fitment of the part that that is difficult for the amateur to nail.

Haha I TOTALLY agree. And likewise.
These were a PITA to build because of the tight clearances and hand formed oval tubing/transitions into immediate bends.

I'm not a great melter but I laid this down on my own personal manifold for my car. I also decided to hand weld the whole thing instead of having it robot welded, good practice

Re: Post you best welds!!!!!!!
On a cosmetic scale there isnt a welder that is active on this forum that could touch me, especially with filler (we could sit booth to booth with a traveler and i'd be done by lunch time while most of these peeps would be pulsing over shitty areas).
by the way feel free to post pics

All purged, 35 pieces, done in no time

^^Those welds look pretty good although it looks like you have a tiny fitment error in the second to last picture. How does the inside of the pipe look on those welds??
By the way, i'm going to second Clayton's post at the top of the page. This thread is for showing your good welds and giving suggestions to others on how to improve upon them. It's not about bashing the hell out of each other and arrogantly ranting about how superior you are (FredC). If you want to show off to people, do it in a different forum...this is a civil thread, not a "who's got the biggest *****" contest

Re: Post you best welds!!!!!!!
Thanks, torch angle is apart of the equation, but I really don't use much torch angle, its more my travel speed a tungsten shape, but really the biggest thing is penetration, having full penetration on tube draws the center of the pool down which changes the ))))) to a slightly more >>>>> shape.

3/32 red tungsten. Cup is big lol. Check www.arc-zone.com I get them from there. Alittle more $$$ than a reg. lense.

I said it in an earlier post, but clean the metal before welding it...it's a simple way to make your welds not only stronger, but more aesthetically pleasing

I am removing posts that do not contain helpful info or pics. I don't want to see this childish bickering in here. Take that to GDD if you want to act like children.

Re: Post you best welds!!!!!!!
Could you explain the "woodpecker" motion please Agtronic? Is it a case of moving the tungsten in towards and out away from the weld pool as you go around the tube?
I like the look of those welds and it's a technique I'd like to try for myself.
Regards Andrew from Oz.
Oh, and here's some of my Aluminium welding.

And yes, the motion I use is exactly how you described. I wouldn't use this technique on anything other than boost pipes, because it is not very strong.
