My Dad is looking into buying a plasma cutter and he's not sure which one to get. He's looking for something that with cut 3/8"-1/2" mild steel. Looking for some feed back on what everyone is using and there opinions of what would be a good one to buy.

I personally have a thermal dynamics machine and it has worked great for the
5 years or so that I have used it. I have also use a miller model and it worked just as well. The only complaint that I have is that all the pieces that are in the torch assembly are way too expensive.

cool thanks for your reply. My dad tried a thermal dynamics one out and he said it seemed good. any other recommendations?

I picked up a used Lincoln Pro Cut 80 on ebay, its an amazing machine, cuts up to 1.25", the Pro Cut 55 is a nice machine too.

i think the thermal dynamics machine is the best, but the consumables are expensive. ive been told that the Hypertherm plasma cutters, they have designed their torches with better cooling allowing for better parts life ( like twice as long ). but its been my experience that the consumables last the same in any plasma set up its just that the user puts to much pressure on the thrch head or wrong size air compressor or not enough psi of air to cool the torch down.

can we get some "round about" #'s on these machines. i would like to purchase one in the future and am looking for a "bang for the buck" type deal.

I think I paid about $800.00 for my machine but that was a long time ago and prices may have changed.

go with thermal....they make the best plasma. I paid 1600 for mine, it cuts up to 3/4 inch
