Default Pics of your tig torch setup :)

I ordered my new #9 torch with a large stubby gas lens and #12 cup, but the cup looks unlike most I have seen.

If anyone here uses the same setup I just listed, could you be kind enough to post a picture of your torch please

I'll post a pic later when I go to the shop. But post a pic of your setup, I'm curious to see.

Here's is my setup, pretty much the same you'll have

SR9 torch with weldcraft large gas lens + #12 cup

When I first got that cup I was shocked :D It was huge... but now it seems normal, and everything smaller - tiny

Good luck!

The insulator on your 26 isn't the right one, and your #20 looks weird too.

Thanks! I'm awaiting my insulator. Mine looks like Rades. How much are those clear lens setups?

Those clear pyrex cups (gas savers) I have one, and used it a hand full of times. To get gas coverage comparable to a standard #12 cup I have the raise the regulator to around 40-55cfm. More like gas waster imo.

Most common torch we use is a pencil torch, the WT-20P.

CRMB, i have not used a pencil torch before and have a question.... how does one HOLD the pencil torch? like a normal pencil or parallel to your forearm?

It would seem (without having used one) that the weight of the hose would be problematic when holding like a pencil without some overhead rigging to hold the weight of the hose.

I have one that came with my welder, but i have never bothered trying to hook it up.

Hey Wade,

Here is mine, its a wp20, but its pretty much a watercooled version of a wp9. Uses the same front end parts.

It has a 25ft braided hose, zip up cover and #12 gas lens. I dig it, just need one more part and I'm watercooled.

Thanks for introducing me to the smaller wp9/20 and the braided rubber hoses. I like them alot better than the wp17 setup I am used to.

You hold it like a pencil. I dont remember the cables being much of a concern but it has been more then a few years since I picked up a tig torch.

I found exactly the same thing. Waste of money.

You'll need forearms like popeye to hold the weight of the cable I would have thought.

I can't get a good hang of welding with a 12. It seems too wide for moving around tight spaces.

but you can hang the tungsten out at least an inch making maneuvering super easy (as long as nothing is bumping the cup)

I understand that, but it seems like I am always clanking it into ****. I just can't hang with the big cups, man.

Took me some practice to get used to the large cup, now just every now an then I need to ditch the #12 to get into tight spots. A smaller torch has helped alot.

What are you guys using for your argon flow rates with the #12 cup?

Nice setups!

It took me a little while to get used to the #12 also. At first it feels like you're welding with a shot glass at the end of your torch. It also takes little time to get a feel for the right gas flow rates. (True of any cup change).

I use a WP-17 with the regular gas lens and a #8 for anything that doesn't need to be super clean (AL, or SS that I will clean after welding). For SS pipe and tubing that needs to come out clean, I use the large gas lens with a #12 cup.

For gas flow, I use ~12 cfh for the small gas lens, or like ~20 when using more stick out, but it depends on the joint I'm welding, and where it's located etc ...

For the large gas lens, I usually always set it at ~20-22 cfh.

My torch has taken a beating and a half, I tend to break things when I get angry. Last time I whipped it against a chair and it hit the top of the chair back and bend into a U shape. I unbent it and it still works fine. But just recently I threw it down and the back-cap pulled out from the back and took the threads in the body out with it. So I need to get a replacement soon. Not sure if I want to get something different or not ...

I normally always set mine to 15 cfh. Excessive stick out, 20-25 cfh
