Default People with 40CF argon/c02 cylinders... How long do they last?

I just order my mig conversion kit and I need to get a cylinder... Whats the average time a 40CF cylinder last while welding? I dont want to buy a huge tank and I also dont want to run out in the middle of making my manifold...

I think I just bought a 60cf tank. Anyways, I have welded for atleast 2 hours on it and none of the tank pressure has really dropped yet.

Assuming you have a "constant flow" regulator, the math is pretty simple.

Regulator flow is measured in cubic feet per hour. If you run at 10 CF/H your 40 CF tank will last something less than 4 hours.

BTW you are better off just leasign a tank. I learned the hard way on that one. It is really difficult to find a gas dealer who will fill your tank, they want to lease you theirs. Even if you convince them to fill yours, they will only do it if the hydro test is up to date, and those are usually up if you buy a used tank.

I live in miami, fl and welding supplies period here are a scarcity unless is for structural purposes... I found a place that just exchanges tanks... so im looking at like $120 for a 40cf tank with a fill... and like $20 there on after..

mig saves a lot of gas though

stragiht argo i own two 156 Cu ft bottles i go thru them every 2 weeks.

mig lasts forever. because of the power/gas savings im starting to mig some things here n there. ESP laser/flame cut crap tahts kinda dirty. to prevent it from contaminating my cups and my tungsten , gas lense etcc.

i used to love mig. since i moved to tig i hated mig. now im starting to enjoy mig welding again.
