Default AN ORB Fittings for Valve Cover Ventilation

Anyone ever use ORB style fittings for valve cover ventilation? Not to save from welding, but to make the setup more flexible. Like, I may have reasons to want to change size or plug off for smog inspection, etc.

Interested to see how they worked out (or if it doesn’t work), or maybe pics of some installs.

I think you would have a hard time getting a nut on the inside of the valve cover, at least on a B series it would be very tight and not a good flat surface to seal on unless you went with a very small fitting size. It also needs to be baffled properly or else your catchcan will fill very quickly, so the baffling would need to be removable to get to the nut.

Just off the top of my head.

They don’t use a nut. They are O ring sealed and you can apply a little Loctite (I’d probably go for some purple just for a little peace of mind). Counting the threads on the fitting pictures above, it requires ~5/16” of thread into the cover, which the thickness should support in the baffled area. If I had a snap caliper handy I’d measure but I don’t.

I’m using one on my valve cover.

Soooo.... Killer build man. I had fun scrolling through that. But you're cheating with that custom cover. Just kidding. I might just try it and see how it works out. Maybe I can get one of the machinists at work to do the drill and tap for me, it will save me from buying the bit and tap that I will not likely use for another project.

I wouldn’t think there would be enough material to tap threads in for it, but go ahead and give it a try

have someone weld 2 onto the nice valve cover you like/want. When it comes to inspection time, replace the valve cover with a stock one. I'm sure we didn't have to tell you that dude...

I know. Was just thinking out of the box a little bit. I may or may not try it.

That's the easiest route. Once the catch can setup is in, you're likely to keep it. If it needs to be removed for whatever reason, a stock setup can be put back in a matter of minutes.

I’ve had one to the back of the block since I built this engine. Changing the setup around now.

Bulkhead Fittings or Weld Fittings. Not O-Ring... Even though it's low pressure, it's relying on threads with no backing. Just not a reliable setup.

I welded mine.

Internally should have some diffuser so oil doesn't just dump in there.

This is a Bulkhead w/ Smooth Bore 90*
