Re: how to remove spot welds?

you can drill the spot weld out completely or you can get a a sheet metal cutter set from snap on which i reccommened. it cuts my work time down by 70 % then driling out the whole weld. worth every penny. cost is about 120.00

use one of these

or use a regular metal drill bit and CAREFULLY drill through the metal layer you want to REMOVE

Thanks guys for all the help but I went by using a regular drill bit to remove them. Heres a link to some pictures.

One of the best tools I've ever used. I expected it to be weak and wear fast so I bought extra bits.... well, I wasted money on the extra bits. lol. They last super long, but you need to take your time. I cut all the spot welds at a medium pace and the bit is still super sharp. I HIGHLY recommend this tool!!!!

rotobroach FTW....I couldnt believe how well they worked . I dont do a whole lot of body type work but what little I have done it has cut the tear apart time in half....I used to just use a unistep bit and drill through both panels , but of course that didnt always work out so well when reattaching things

Re: how to remove spot welds?

hey i tried using those a spot weld removal bit with the retracting pilot and had terrible luck with it. I think maybe because mine was a cheap knockoff.

I just tried using one of my regular drill bits and it came out pretty easy.
I just center punched the spot weld and went to town :)
I'm not sure if this is the proper way to remove spot welds but it seemed to work for me :)
just sharing my experience since i just did this yesterday
