filler rod for 6061 0.118 sheet intake manifold 5356 or 4043.
hey guys,
haven't been here in a while.
question to the experts if they are still here,
which filler rod do you recommend for welding a 6061 0.118 (3mm) sheet intake manifold.
i have 5356 and 4043.
i assumed 5356 is a better choice until i saw that 5356 isn't good for temperatures above 150F,
thanks alot!!!

I always use 5356. the end result and look with 5356 wire is superior to 4043 IMO. I reserve 4043 for cast and general welding/repair

You need to match your filler wire selection to what you are doing. There is no end all be all filler rod solution. I have been using Maxal 4943 a bit more (read this article: http://www.fabricatingandmetalworkin...lsion-systems/).
5356 and 4043 both have their limitations. You need to ask if the part will see post weld anodizing, the weld joint's service temperature, etc.
