Default filler rod for 6061 0.118 sheet intake manifold 5356 or 4043.

hey guys,
haven't been here in a while.
question to the experts if they are still here,

which filler rod do you recommend for welding a 6061 0.118 (3mm) sheet intake manifold.

i have 5356 and 4043.
i assumed 5356 is a better choice until i saw that 5356 isn't good for temperatures above 150F,

thanks alot!!!

reserve the 5356 for cast and anodized parts. stick to the 4043 for the 6000 series alloys

I always use 5356. the end result and look with 5356 wire is superior to 4043 IMO. I reserve 4043 for cast and general welding/repair

You need to match your filler wire selection to what you are doing. There is no end all be all filler rod solution. I have been using Maxal 4943 a bit more (read this article: http://www.fabricatingandmetalworkin...lsion-systems/).

5356 and 4043 both have their limitations. You need to ask if the part will see post weld anodizing, the weld joint's service temperature, etc.

Use 4047 for it. It has twice as much silicon for flow and it's stronger than 4043 also.
