Can the holes for the side molding be welded up with a piece of steel behind them? What kind of welder should be used for this? CX fenders that are flawless seem to be a needle in a haystack, I picked up two flawless fenders from a junkyard and I dont want to welding to warp anything.

I've filled lots of trim holes with a cheap wire feed welder. The trick is to get a true weld going and not just the hole filled. Start by doing two or three holes, let it cool and then take a grinder to the weld and try to get it flush. If the weld pops out, as it probably will the first try, it's not melting the surrounding metal for a true weld. Adjust the amps a bit higher and try again. I never had a problem with warping on such a small hole. You can also try tapping the finished weld with a hammer to see if it pops out before you grind it. Once you get the right amount of heat, you should be good to go. A TIG or Stick welder would probably do a better job, but I never had access to one when I did the holes on my whip. One other thing to be aware of is the Mig/Wire feed welder will have a lot of splatter so it's best to weld the holes before you mount the fenders on the car and even throw some old towels/rags on the fender to protect it from the slag/splatter.
