Cut my coupe in half, re-shaping the body
Some fun fab to do what I feel is increase the top end speed of the car by lowering drag... in theory.
I thought some of you might dig on the process of re-shaping our road race car. Let's start by cutting the back off.

moving some cardboard and rod around, looking for shape ideas. Nothing set in stone, looking for inspiration. Sorry for the blurry pics, I'm old... it's what you get...
Kind of thinking it would be cool, and useful later from a repair perspective, if we used something like the hatch rear bumper cover. It looks to shorten the car body up about a foot.
Looks like if we use some of these rust repair panels off the hatch, we might be able to fully adapt the hatch bumper cover onto the coupe.

Re: Cut my coupe in half, re-shaping the body
Started building the pieces at the very back of the chassis between the tail lights. the car is wider closer to the tires than it is at the very back, so we had to widen those pieces about 10"
This piece is not a diffuser, it's the new floor plate where the old tire well was. It will eventually be the roof, over the area where the diffuser will be.

mocking up the rear trunk and bumper cover from a hatchback on the coupe. Starting to play with ideas on new C-pillars.
lot of mock up here. Sadly, it's just sitting there, no infrastructure to hold it in place. But the idea is coming around. The original C-pillars are back on, but moved in about 8" per side at the back.

Ended up having to make my own C-pillers. Old trunk lid is now the rear package tray.
new sheet metal to meet the B-pillars with the new package tray.
C-pillers kind of mocked up

Wow, I've never seen this kind of aero modification before. Was it an option to start fresh with a hatchback shell?

Yes and no. Looking back.... yes. would have been easier to build a new car. BUT, I also get a long wheelbase this way with a coupe compared to a hatch, which helps put weight on the front tires.
