Re: Beginners blog: fabrication life progression
Damn you didn't give that bandsaw any time to rest in the shop huh ? haha
the fab is looking good
I just finished welding up my collector myself. 1st one i ever made and I'm pretty happy with it.
Quick question. Should i move up to a 14 cup like the fupa one you have? I use a 8 gas lens.
It worked great for the 16 gauge tube i was doing. Tonight doing my collector it seemed i couldn't get any good color out of it with out stoping after an inch. if i welded more than that it got real hot and barely got any purple but mostly dark.
Ill post some pics in the other thread

The FUPA is a 12. The BBW the 14. With stainless, you almost have to go to a 12 to get the right has coverage. You can do it with an 8 but it comes from years of experience which I don't have yet lol.
Are you beveling the edges of the pipe? I bevel pipe and tubing alike. It keeps the amount of amps down to get penetration and keeps the material cooler which gives you good color....as well as proper gas coverage. What is your post flow set to? I run a minimum of 8 seconds

I never beveled the edges on thin stuff but noticed you do so ill be doing that on the next part i make
I am beveling the sch 10
Post flow at 6 seconds i think
Man i was watching a toxic fab vid and idk what the hell hes doing but when he finishes a weld the weld isnt red at all and is a perfect gold almost polished stainless color

How you hold the torch matters too as well as your gas flow. Back purging can also help fix the weld getting really hot as i learned this weekend. It was being really temperamental. Still turned out great but I go take breaks and allow the surface temp to go under 80° before firing up again. Which i think was my fault in not running a high enough flow. There were so many places for the gas to escape through the pies, I should have ran much higher. I usually run around 15 CFH back purge

No beef just a question. Use better aluminum and it won't bend. lol. How tight are you making your t-bolts? We've boost leak tested up to 40psi on your every day stuff.

All looks amazing Blake, of course I seent it on insta already lol.
Finally got around to messing with my tig. Started with aluminum sheet because it's the material I have right now. Starting to get the hang maybe but hard to keep from warping it (of course being a newb I'm positive I simply put too much heat into it). I'm wondering if anyone uses the FUPA on aluminum, seems like I've only seen it used on stainless
Edit: probably because alum cools too fast lol never mind

Nice work from the beginning to the present. I ended up burning out on automechanics and went into welding as a profession. I learned a lot in production/manufacturing. Now I'm back into mechanics/building Jeeps, all I do is itch to run a CNC Plasma or weld. Both are very therapeutic for me. It's my meditation/cool down period. Now, i've moved, and live in an inner city condo, I have no place to weld for ***** a giggles, only during lunch at work.
