Would mixed set of hypoid gears cause this?
This is a 5th gear on mainshaft in a h22 m2f4 gear set that was put into a jdm lsd casing with the lsd. The ms was shimmed properly. The 5th gear synchro and sleeve were new (with a hardened sleeve). After 1500 miles out of no where, NASTY GRIND, 5th became near impossible to get into. Was not beating on it at the time it happened, but the other 1400 miles where hard including 2 autocross events but not using 5 obviously, was never too hard on 5, maybe 5 8000 rpm shifts that where all smooth.
Do you think the offset gears on the diff/counter could cause these teeth on the ms, to get destroyed like is?
Or is it from the offset new hardened sleeve and used gear (was good when inspected prior)?

What do you mean bye offset gears? You can definitely tell it got hot.. Did you check and clean the main shaft oiling holes when assembling? Is this hardened sleeve from synchrotech? Do you have a picture of it?

By good I mean it did not have excessive wear. The sleeve is from synchrotech....
Offset as in, They are not a matching set. The diff is not from the same trans the countershaft came from, but thinking back that countershaft was replaced about 20k ago when that gear set was in the m2f4 case with oem open diff

That shouldn't have caused this issue, but you should never do that. Gears with a different wear pattern will whine and wear quicker. Always replace gears in matched pairs.

Mis-matched gears wouldn't cause that problem, but that was the first mistake.
Too tight of a mainshaft shim clearance wouldn't cause that.
The gear had to be in poor shape or you did something really wrong. That kind of wear does not occur in 1,500 miles if everything is in good shape and its shifted and maintained properly.

Yes the stopper was in there correctly.
So to br ing this thread back up I discovered more carnage when I went back to put it together.
Spring got bent...it was new.
Also the washer on the ms seems to have excessive wear, more than I remember seeing 1500 miles ago. Shim to tight? What would cause the spring to get twisted like that?
