this is a weird problem

ok so i took my car to a mechanic that does work out of his garage. He installed my motor. we swapped the computer from a p2p to a p2e. I had a y8 but now have a d16y7 bolted to a d16y8 transmission. The problem is when the car is running it will not go into ANY gears. When the car is off you can put it into 1st 2nd...you can even start the car in 1st gear and when you try to shift it into 2nd it wont go. I know for a fact the tranny is good. What is the problem here? http://is.rely.net/1-92-65076-l-NREc...mLFY3DaZnA.gif

check your clutch fluid, i dont think your clutch is disengaging which is not allowing it to go in gear when the car is running, some mechanic???

thebleek Nov 14, 2008 11:01 PM

what kind of fluid do 97 d16y8 trannies take?

Hanmin Nov 14, 2008 11:10 PM

not the tranny fluid, the clutch fluid, at the clutch master cylinder? its dot3 and/or dot4 brake fluid, i forget.

he told me the motor was for an automatic, and i have a manual.

could it be possible that some part was still connected for the auto trans?

Hanmin Nov 15, 2008 05:38 PM

no. he did something wrong. there is an auto tranny and manual tranny, the motor is practically the same. just check your freaking clutch master cylinder, have someone press in the clutch and see if the shift fork moves...

well i called him and told him to check the fluid and the rod that goes from the clutch pedal. they are going to put everything back together tomorrow so i hope it works.

this is very frustrating because ive been without my car for 2 months. Not his fault, but mine for not having the $ to fix it

Hanmin Nov 16, 2008 12:54 PM

costs 5 freaking dollars to fix. he shouldve told you what you needed before you started it. don't beat yourself up because you have a stupid mechanic.

thebleek Nov 16, 2008 04:35 PM

yeah he said he broke/cracked a motor mount but he is installing my motor for 300$ so i cant bitch.

plus i have spare mounts anyway :[

it sounds like the pressure plate or the clutch disk inspect that
