Transmission gets stuck in 5th and bearing/gear noise
Purchased a low mileage rebuilt trans for my crx si with an mfactory diff.
Been driving on it for about 6 months.
When coasting down in 2nd it has a whine that sounds like straight cut gears. About 30% of the time it gets stuck in 5th gear. It will appear to go into neutral but remains in 5th. I can pop it in and out from 5th to neutral several times and it works.
Pulled it today and the torco rtf with less than 10k miles looks like coffee. I don't any obvious problems with the transmission open. What should i be looking at?

Sounds like the shift manifold (piece is such a crappy term) is badly damaged, or you have shift rod damage due to lowering and impact damage.
The problem with buying "rebuilt" units, is you have to take on faith that is was rebuilt to some standard. It is not as simple as it sounds to slam an LSD into a transmission if your goal is longevity.

unfortunately i found that the syncro sliders had chewed up teeth, im sure it could be "usable" with a little bit of time with a small file, but i also found heat damage on gears 2, 3 and 4.
I ended up swapping the LSD to my other recently rebuilt transmission that had less damage in the parts not replaced. with the newest of these transmissions being 25 years its getting hard to find parts...
