Default Transmission boss

Newbie question here but what are people referring to when they say the 'boss' of the transmission.

I've never heard anyone use the word "boss' when discussing anything transmission related. I'm curious to see what peoples' answers are now too.
Usually a boss is a machined recess in something, like the injector boss, which is the recess in the intake manifold that the injector sits in. Maybe they're talking about the spots where the trans bearings sit?

The cylinder shape thread extension to bolt things too.
...spent a whole 30sec trying to find a pic, but gave up. Hopefully that is enough.

And on trans there are actually some blank spots good for prying.

Oh, okay. Makes sense now. Needed to know because Hasport told me I would need to drill into these spots for the EGJ1 mounts for my CL-S tranny

Be careful drilling anything like that. Those cases are way thinner than you think.
