Icon2 Shift linkage flipped upside down somehow.. please help

Hi everyone,
I replaced the shift lever on my '00 EK hatch then when I got back in the car after tightening everything back up I found the shifter won't hardly move in any direction.. I got back under the car and it seems MAYBE the shift linkage somehow got turned on it's side and I had bolted it back onto the shift lever upside down. I removed the 12mm bolt to see if I could rotate it back to to its original position and it won't budge. Clutch in or out. I have no idea what else to even try at this point. It's my daily and I need to get it functioning very soon so any ideas are very appreciated!!! Thanks

It's called shift rod in this diagram
