P1758 & sometimes flashing D4 after 35-min drive
Subsequently, the flashing 'D4' did NOT appear during the next three, 35-minute drives, but it reappeared again at the end of the 4th, when I was on my street almost home. I haven't driven it since then, but the car has been driving the same as usual. One thing to note is that I replaced the VSS with a new aftermarket one from 1A Auto about 2500 miles ago because the speedometer suddenly stopped working and immediately threw the pertinent VSS code.
So, yesterday, I removed the lock-up solenoid assembly. Both solenoids' screens were clear and the ATF I saw was still red (I did a drain-refill 3X back when I bought this car at 262K miles). I then checked the resistance of both solenoids on the assembly, and they checked somewhere around 15 ohms each, which I believe is within spec. I then applied battery power to each one separately to see if they'd actuate. They both clicked, but the one with the green wire seemed weak compared to the yellow-wired one. Part of me says to go ahead and change it, due to the high miles, but then again, Honda dealer says $310 for a new one (new aftermarket $170), so I don't want to buy another one only to find out the ECU is bad, or worse. Looking for some opinions here, especially any information or further troubleshooting I can do that helps me confidently know it is or isn't a bad solenoid.
Also, any suggestions on where to get another one? Junkyard, rockauto, or genuine Honda? Thanks in advance for any input.
