Owner of New 2013 Civic si 4dr Need advice
Hello Everyone
So I just bought a 2013 civic si 4dr and its my first Manuel car and have some questions about shifting and what is a normal and abnormal feeling. It mostly has to do with shifting gears as I know the basics and still learning. So here are my questions:
1. Shifting in second it feels a little jolty i do the whole push in clutch switch to second and slowly let go and at the same time give it gas. 2nd gear proves to be the hard to get a good shift on for me as the rest are easy and smooth gear changes. So basically is this jolty horrible for clutch? Or its not a big deal as its part of my learning process and do i just need more time driving to find the perfect shift?
2. I feel a a low intensity grinding when i hold the clutch down when switching gears and its nothing big but I assume its the clutch spinning. I wanted to know if im right or not? If so can you plz explain?
3. When shifting gears how long is to long when holding down clutch to switch gears?
4. Is using the clutch as a brake when reversing in small spaces a bad thing?
This covers my questions for now. I would definitely appreciate a response as well as any advice any of you guys have for a new Honda owner as well as first time standard car owner. thank you guys for your time.

DO IT ON ALL FOURS
Re: Owner of New 2013 Civic si 4dr Need advice
1.) You just aren't good at the timing on releasing the clutch. Try shifting at 4k RPM.
2.) No clue what you are talking about here, mine doesn't do it. Are you sure you aren't feeling the engine while you rev it?
3.) As long as you want, it doesn't matter but you should give it gas to rev match before going into the next gear.
4.) I assume you mean to slow the car down but not stop it? It is not extremely bad but I wouldn't do it personally. What is wrong with your real brakes?
You really should be having someone teach you before you wind up having to replace a clutch at 20k miles.
