Default New LSD Option? Megabite LSD

I don't have any idea how this works, but someone should give this a shot.

http://www.superfastminis.com/MEGABITE.dwt

This mini company has been putting honda drivetrains in older minis for a while now and just noticed this new addition to their site. Any idea how it works? Cheap!!!

View installation PDF for more pictures of it installed in stock diff.

Opinions on it? Another craptastic makeshift product that's going to chew up your trans or something that could be an option to people on a budget?

I don't know a lot about LSD's and would like to learn more about it. Neither the one I found nor phantomgrip have much info on the units.

How would this compare to say an mfactory or quaife lsd unit(driving characteristics, trans wear, functionality)?

The difference is MFactory and Quaife units are real LSD's.

This was more of a rundown of what I was looking for. I know the PG is a band-aide LSD.

THIS IS A PHANTOM GRIP KNOCK OFF MADE OF INFERIOR MATERIALS AND WILL CAUSE DAMAGE, Phantom Grip Limited Slips are real limited slips. They have been used for over 15 years in the sport compact industry and offer a proven product. Phantom Grips have been used in everything from 7 second FWD drag cars to Group N rally cars and everything in between. The product was developed by a Honda Sponsored racer who has since developed over 800 model specific PG LSD units. Also keep in mind Phantom Grip has sold more Honda Limited Slips in the last 15 years than any of the other Limited Slip manufactures.

You might wanna make note that the Phantom Slip design was a direct copy of a patented design.

"Phantom Slip, works so good you never knew it was there"

John Brown, "a Honda Sponsored racer" is who did the rip off work and tried legal action against me for slander. I'm still here, he got banned.

BTW, Hi John

Been using the Phantom grip on the clay oval for years and have many wins that prove this is a proven product. Just installed my second PG w/ the upgraded spring kit. Can't wait to try it out on my new project B18c5 type R '98 Mini stock.

I have been using the MiniTec Megabite in builds for several years and have not had any trouble, it performs exactly like the phantom grip and in units that have been checked for wear it has not caused any damage. It is a slip type that has hardened plates that are held in tension by springs. It allows slip in extreme situations, but grips for hard acceleration.

When Phantom Grip copied the patented design, why did they leave the clutch plates out???

Only thing a Phantom Slip is good for is holding the spider gears in place when they or the diff pin explodes.

The original design does work, used in MANY road racing and autox setups but not suggested for drag racing.

This is NOT a Phantom Slip/Grip but an original design.

Auburn's had cone surfaces, when worn they are not rebuildable. Very simialr to gear cones and synchros in our Honda trannys.
