Multi B series trans rebuild
ok so ive searched and read allot and need some advice on my specific goals and situation. so i have 2 civics that i plan on working on. on im building to race and the other is my daily. my daily has a b18c and needs new clutch and synchros. the other has a turbo b16a2 with type r final and lsd. i want to build the b16 trans with goals of road racing and replace the daily with the internals of b16. i know i am going to run into problems as i am going to be doing this myself and it is my first attempt at this. any advice is welcome. i am thinking about these

but dont know what to go for as far as lsd. and should i replace the gears while im in there and i have no problem with maintenance or having to adjust the lsd multiple times to get it right.
thanks

You need to inspect the transmission before ordering parts for it unless you have money to burn. It most likely needs more than just the synchros replaced.
What class are you going to be road racing in? That will dictate what gearing and differential you can run.

I plan on road racing. so should i just buy everything to replace the b16 trans and just install it into the b18 trans and just put the whole trans from the b16 on the gsr motor?

Re: Multi B series trans rebuild
im not sure yet im just getting into actually racing. hit up a few nasa events and scca events in atlanta over past year and plan on doing the robeling road race school in savannah this summer. still not sure which club to join. seems like scca is more **** and organized and the nasa was just like guys out there racing. only thing im worried about is the final drive that is in there now and highway driving. im thinking about starting a thred in the road racing section to disscuess the motor as well. if im goiing to have the trans pulled i want to rebuild my daily driver with all oem parts. was going to do myself as well but have been talking to people and they have convinced me to take it to a shop cause a few things could be wrong and need equipment i dont possess. advice on a good shop around the augusta ga area would be nice as well. oh and the reason for the rebuild is it smokes under harder acceleration and under normal driving i can see black stuff starting to build up on rear bumper. thinking the rings are going bad? motor has around 125-150k miles. that and i am just running it on a chiped ecu from a guy that he "said" was the stock jdm gsr map. thanks, curtis

Before you do anything you need to figure out what series and class you're going to race in. That will dictate what you can do with both the transmission and engine. If you're just going to do HPDE's, then your budget and what you want out of it will determine the best setup.

yes im probably going to start with hpde's and the motor is already turbo with 9.1 pistons and built so i know that it already puts me out of allot of classes and up into a class i probably cant keep up with but its cool cause i dont really want to have to get another engine or rebuild what i have.

Re: Multi B series trans rebuild
makes ~350hp max but i know i cant put all that down so ill turn down boost, 8900 rev limit, currently 15x7 with 205/50 nt01s plan on going to a 17 if i can get a hold of some stoptech calipers but its not in my budget right now and think the 6 piston wilwood setup requires 16s so might go to that next summer, and tracks around the southeast region but mostly road atlanta.

The Wilwood kit fits under 15's. Here is a pic of it on the Eibach ITR I built the trans for.
If you run on 17's you will need to change the gearset and FD out. One of my customers (mrlegoman on here) is sub 300whp boosted and kept shredding 3rd and 4th gear (mainly at VIR since that is his home track). His problems started when he stepped up to the 17's. Switched from stock ITR 3/4/5 and FD to the MFactory 3/4/5 close gear set and FD and no problems since.
8,900 with 23.07's is plenty of top speed with the 1.028 (discontinued but still available) or 1.054 5th and 4.05 FD at RA, AMP, CMP, etc.

Re: Multi B series trans rebuild
so you suggest i step down from the 4.7 final? what about an lsd? and in that case sense they fit under 15's ill probably stay on 15's for awhile. should i just swap out the 3, 4, and 5th gear? or with the 15's ill be ok? thanks for all the input by the way
