Default GSR transmission whine!

ok so i just acquired a gsr tranny for a good deal with previous owner claiming it was in good working condition, so my problem is i have an annoying whine in all gears at any speed above 5mph or so. the whine sounds like when I'm going in reverse..i did change both axle seals and shifter seal. i used 2.3 quarts of pennzoil synchromesh. axles are all the way in as well.. my next move will be draining the synchromesh and replacing it with honda mtf.. any ideas? possibly bad bearings?

The fluid change is a waste of money, it's pretty likely something is damaged or installed improperly. Stock transmissions rarely make any whining sounds. Best bet is to pull it apart for an inspection. I find that many used transmissions are sold as mint or perfect and they are really not.

Hmmm.. yes, it could be a broken bearing(s). I've encountered that numerous times.

As for the new fluid, I'd just re-use it.. no worries..

I'd definitely open it up and do a thorough inspection on all bearings, gears, clearances, etc. Are you well-versed in the B-series transmissions? I can email the factory service manual to you if need be. Just PM me your email address.

It could be many things, it needs to be taken apart and inspected. Don't use Honda MTF.

Most used transmissions sold now need to be rebuilt. The newest B transmission (that wasn't purchased new from the parts department) is 13 years old.

In short it is too thin and lacks adequate EP additives.
