Default B vs D series VSS (please help before I try)

Okay, I just ordered a VSS from someone here on H-T who claims it came out of a GSR.
As far as I know the B-series VSS speedo gear is metal & D-series is plastic & the gears aren't interchangeable but the sensors themselves are. I can't swap the speedo gear shaft out cuz I broke mine on accident.
I need to know before I try driving this thing if:
A) Some B-series VSS speedo gears are plastic
or
B) B-series & D-series are compatible & shouldn't have a problem.

I'm afraid to test this out without having more input from people other than the seller for fear of the speedo gear breaking off inside my transmission.
Here is a write up on another forum that causes doubt along with the fact that mine was metal as well. (the write up might not apply to all models)

yes some b series vss are one piece plastic units. and some d series will work. automatic d series speed sensors even will, but won't bolt in unless you trim a slot into the tip.

Thanks for the input...yea it's not so much the whole unit being plastic I'm concerned about it's the GEAR as shown in the link above.

Anyone else?

i've never seen an issue with a broken plastic speedo pinion.

Well I counted the teeth & both had 20 & after talking to a few other people I said screw it & installed it. It worked...I guess only time will tell if the gears dont line up...

So IDK if not all B-series vss gears are metal or D-series work too but for now it works.
