Icon2 Clutch or Tranny?

Car in question is a 1995 gsr teggy. Lately I have noticed that when stopped, especially on hills, when I go to take off there is an obvious whining noise. I never hear it any other time. It happens whether the car is warm or not. I have been trying to figure out if this would be something clutch related or tranny. (There is no bearing noise when clutch is disengaged.) The car is older and has a little over 240k miles. It's my baby though and I don't want to get rid of it. I do my best to take care of it and keep everything running smooth. I just want a second opinion as to what it could be before taking it into a shop.

Do u have trouble getting it in first or reverse? I had a 95 non vtec integra, but it never made a whining noise. hondas have been known to have syncro issues. it could be bearings and/or syncros in the tranny. Had a 92 accord 5speed which had rattling noise in second gear.

Could be a bearing in the clutch like the release bearing, or pilot bearing in the flywheel.

Without hearing the noise it's very hard to say what could be causing it.

However, a bearing won't make noise unless it's actually doing something.

For example:

While the clutch pedal is released (clutch engaged), the pilot bearing does nothing so if there is noise after the pedal has been released, it's unlikely to be a problem with the pilot bearing.

The gearbox main shaft bearings do pretty much nothing while stopped with the clutch pedal pressed, but rotate when the pedal is released. (RPM related)

The layshaft bearings do nothing while the road wheels are stationary (speed related)

A bad release bearing will usually make noise under most conditions (chirping), but will sometimes improve or worsen when the pedal is pressed or released.

If you rule out all the above, it more than likely a clutch issue.

Hope that helps

Sorry it has taken so long to respond to your replies, holiday traveling and all.

It isn't making a grinding noise.
It is sometimes difficult to get into 1st and reverse. It has always done that. Usually have to release the ebrake and let it move forward or back a bit then it goes in smooth.
There isn't much bearing noise when I have the clutch completely out.
I can't find anyway to describe the noise it makes...it almost like the whine you might get if a cd gets stuck in a cd player...idk. best example i can think of

Sounds like a shift linkage. My friend had this problem. His was a 4 door integra. And replaced with a 4 door linkage. He had a 2 door linkage. The length are like 1/2 inch short/ longer
