Default Adding LSD China Grip in LS transmission

So after many years of lurking I decided to post. In stead of buying an Mfactory diff, what is 2 China grips for 29.82 shipped. Pictures to come.

Notice how much needs to be ground down to get the space to fit the box.

Had to remove ring gear. Lefty tighty, righty loosey.

Still doesn't fit

grip fits but the pin does not

Grinding away

hardest part. make sure the gold 10mm bolt stays in that location.

installed

pin has to fit

All in all about 4 hours of playing with to get transmission together. Once I get it installed we will see how good the china grip is.

On the dyno at Richtune in Tacoma Washington, this LS transmission withstood 300 whp, and 202 wtorq (only 6.5 lbs of boost, b20 damper going on next, then retune). 2 tire fire outside of the shop (very streetable, almost raped ape). Not to bad for 12$ for the china grip, 11$ for the Pin, and silicone. They do make some clicking noises while turning but other than that. cheap alternative than spending on a 800$ diff plus installation.

How is it in the corners? Will both wheels get power or does the inside tire spin like crazy?

Put it behind a dyno tested 300 hp kraftwerks supercharger EM1. Little bit of chatter but definitely better than open differential. No issues. 2 tire fire.

This setup the spyder gears rub directly on the china locker unit.

since it rubs metal on metal, doesn't it cause metal shavings to Contaminate your oil over time?

I have seen other designs where you have a little friction disc there.

Yes, you are introducing metal shavings to clog up your passageways and cause damage to gears. The other design you speak of is the original that Phantom Grip poorly knocked off, the OPM. It utilizes clutch discs but is no longer made.
