95 GSR transmission Y80 mainshaft question.
ok i have a GSR trans that has a slight grind when shifting to 5th gear, so i took it apart to see the problem.. found out it was the sleeve teeth gone bad. Put everything back together and notice that when turning the main shaft it spins but takes a little bit more effort to turn it. But when u loosen up the 16 12mm bolts that holds the outter casing and it has a little gap between to 2 case housing, the main shaft spins just fine and freely... I kinda think it's the shim that is on the outter case is too close against the taper bearing that is on the differencial unit when u tighten up the 2 case together.
BUt i could be wrong, what else can it be? I have not spin the main shaft before i open up the tranny to see if it spins freely or it takes a little more effort to spin it.... I have a SOHC transmission and it spins much more freely than this GSR trans that i dissasembled and reassembled....
please help!!

did you check to make sure you have the washer with tab on it in the proper spot? it has a recieving groove in the outer case.

no, its under the first bearing you would have to remove to unstack the gears on the shaft. the tab bends toward the gears and sould be pointed toward what is the top of the trans when its in the car. hope this helps you!

not quite getting it, but i took out one of the 2 washer where the main shaft goes into and it seems to spin freely, so i think im either putting the washer shims in the wrong way or it might need a thinner washer now!

found out the problem, the main shaft bearing that sits on top of the the big washer that has a tab that bends towards the gear fell out and i dint put it back in the correct direction, it dint sit all the way into the plastic container that the bearing goes into.
