Hello, this is my first post on this forum
I'm very interested in swapping an 87 HF Trans in and pulling the SI trans,
Question is what differences will I run into, splines, axles, clutch, flywheel, ect..
I've done research saying they are year specific..
Aswell I've read I could just separate the cases and swap 4th and 5th gear..

I'm no expert on the EF chassis, but if I recall, the 84-87 Civics are pre-D series, meaning I don't think the 88 Civic engine will bolt up to it. Also, I would assume the axles may be different, the 3rd gen (84-87) had a macphearson strut suspension and a different wheelbase/track so I can only suggest that there may be several other differences. Or were you wanting to swap the engine and trans from the 87 HF into an 88?

Was thinking the same thing, I've been trying to source a HF trans, but now instead I am trying to find a HF 2.95 fd vs. My factory si 3.88 fd.. if I'm correct that should lower my rpms thus for greater mpg.. correct?
