Windshield Calibration LKAS
 

Hi !

We've had several windshields replaced in cars with driver assistance packages like LKAS. Just had the '17 Ridgeline done and LKAS no longer working - No, we did not get it calibrated at the time (last Friday).

... one of 2 things has happened.

1. We've been extremely lucky in the past, windshields replaced and no calibration was required, car works fine.
2. The windshield tech. broke something or hit the camera such that it's now WAY off center.

My understanding is LKAS calibration ensures the vehicle is properly centered in the lane and looking far enough ahead. Uncalibrated (unless it's WAY-WAY off), it should still find the lane, but the LKAS may not center the vehicle correctly or anticipate turns fast enough and be dangerous.

There are no errors or warnings on the dash, LKAS will turn on (hollow lane markers on the display), but regardless of where I place the truck on the road, LKAS can not find the lane and take corrective steering action.

MY QUESTION IS: Has anyone had LKAS fail to find the road lines and did a calibration fix it? Tech's who may do the calibration - a previously calibrated system, how far off can the camera be, such that it can't even find the lines (even if the car is not center correctly in the lane)? Given the camera is deeply recessed, it should be safe from damage during a normal windshield replacement, I would think.?
PS Rain sensing wipers work fine. Different sensor I know, similar physical location.

If the windshield is not OEM,it can affect LKAS.
Generally, the systems are always supposed to be calibrated after windshield replacement, unless the service information states otherwise(The Civic in the link you posted does not call for calibration after replacement)

The calibration is typically measured in millimeters, so there is basically no margin for error.
The system should be scanned and calibrated before anything else....

Based on what I can find, it doesn't appear that any physical damage was done. Following up on this with garage that did the windshield replacement would be time sensitive.

Instead, we're going to live with it. No reason to invest in a feature we don't use (LKAS), everything else appears unaffected including adaptive cruise which we do use.
Next windshield we do, we'll consider the calibration.
