Rebuilding D16Y8 and need some serious info guys!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know that I have a shitty rod ratio and I'm considering rebuilding my engine before it's time. I am eventually going to do a swap, but I am patient and I am thinking about rebuilding my bottom end.
I am thinking about using a1 pistons but I haven't decided on what rods I should use, or if I should even use those pistons. I need you guys' opinion on this topic. Give me all the info you can on this, i really would appreciate it.
Thanks..........

The compression will be very high. 12:1 I believe. You will need that thing tuned perfect to run on 92 Octane.
LS rods.
LS rods.

Yeah I kinda figured that. Could you give me a pretty decent setup for my bottom end that would be pretty reliable and will perform well.

Are you doing this yourself or paying someone?
In other words parts or parts and labor

I know my way around the shop pretty well, but going into the block of a honda will be new to me. I am going to get some of my friends to help me. They build honda motors all the time. I'm not going to just sit back and pay someone else to build my own engine. I hate that.

Hrm......new bearings and rings.....
new water pump....
new timing belt.....
Doesn't leave room for much when you start thinking about it.......
IMO if you are saving for a swap. Leave the bottom end alone. Your that much closer to a larger engine.
Unless you really have to get more performance now. If so, what else do you have on the car and what will you need to upgrade. Do that. Don't bother with your engine. Your losing money.

Re: Rebuilding D16Y8 and need some serious info guys!!!!!!!!!!!! (Spade)
Right now I have I/H/E and test pipe high flow cat, short shifter, and stock P28 on a 98 EX Civic Cp. I have the stock D16Y8 engine and tranny. The engine has 70,000 miles on it and is running very well. I just want it to last avery long time. I don't want to have to do a swap unless I absolutely have to. I want this engine to be very strong yet reliable before it get's swapped for a DOHC engine.

If you want more power it's a lot cheaper to buy a SRR 4.7 or 4.9 Final drive and have that put in the tranny. Or a lightweight flywheel and Stage 2 clutch. All three of these are 400 each.
If you don't modifiy the engine you will be fine for reliability.
EDIT: I forgot to mention LSD!!! Quaife = 800 though.

Thanx a lot for you guys' help. You supplied me with some good info. I guess I'll start investing in a clutch and flywheel, and a cam and cam gear. I also plan on getting some juice. I was thinking about either nx or zex. I also want Hondata. The new s100 sounds nice. What do you guys recommend? Clutch, flywheel, cam, cam gear, and nitrous.

Just curious, but what mods did your engine have and was it the z6 or y8? Also, did you dyno it and did you run it at the track (1/4mile)? What car was it in(cp,sedan,or hatch)? If any, what weight reductions did you have? And how well do you rate yourself as a driver(drag-racing)? These questions would really help if you don't mind. If not then I understand.
