Bringing this post back from the dead. I also want to know what is o-ringing ? And when is it necessary ?

it is not necessary, an O-ring goes on top of a sleeve to help the headgasket to have a better seal, i have found that using the step deck option is alot better and consitent

I didn't really know that O-rings were used on Honda engines due to the open deck configuration, but is common on high compression domestic engines.

What happens is that there is a circular groove cut in the block's deck surface around the cylinder (the head surface). Then a copper (I believe) o-ring is set in in the groove (between the block and head gasket). This ring helps keep the compression from blowing out the head gasket.

If you want more information, you may ge better off searching through Domestic car web sites. You could try Chevelles.com
