Default Weird coolant passage behind t-belt tensioner....

I have my tensioner off doing a timing belt on my gsr motor. It started to leak coolant when i loosened it up and when i got it off there is a half moon shaped slot behind the tensioner... Is this normal and if so what is the purpose? How do I seal it from leaking coolant when i put the thing back togeteher.
Thanks

My '95 GSR didn't have that, no coolant leak when I took off the tensioner.

Part of the waterpump leaking? Or cracked??

unless the block is cracked it should not leak there. are you sure anti-freeze did not get spilled in there before you removed the tensioner.

that is a spot where some blocks crack. so i was told by my engine builder who fills that specific spot with JB weld on all the builds he does.

just make sure its fully clean and dry and apply some JB weld or good RTV silicone.

The blocks usually break through at that point when sleeving the blocks with Darton MID sleeves. I fill the slot with high temp epoxy.

HT user Dunkd had the same problem; contact him and see what he did to resolve the problem.

Yah, as mentioned above this is a spot prone to cracking when sleeving. My motor originally came back and was filled with RTV there. Ran it like that for a year, then decided to pick the RTV out when I was rebuilding the block the following year, I had no idea why it was there at the time.

After getting my motor all back together and start it up the day for retuning it leaked coolant there . Quick fix was JB weld, lasted for about 10minutes before it started leaking again.

I then had my friend TIG weld that groove shut and havent had a problem since. I also had it done with motor still in the car. Tricky, but got it done.
