Valve cover filter purpose?
I've seen many racers and tuners that have a small filter on the valve cover instead of having the tube that goes to the air intake.I was wondering whats the purpose for doing that?

Doesn't do anything more than what you just mentioned. It allows people to run intakes without the VC breather hose. Some after market intakes do not have the fitting for a valve cover breather hose. Or if your running a Turbo you wouldn't usually want too many holes in the intake piping. |
Re: Valve cover filter purpose? (mmuller)
What are the cons? Why do people do it if it has no purpose?

Re: Valve cover filter purpose? (fryman)
It does have a purpose, it allows you to maintain the proper fresh air intake for the PVC system. There are no mechanical Pros or cons the only real pro is that it gets rid of one more hose in the engine bay.

Oh ok.Didn't see your previous post.Ok now I understand.thanks

Re: Valve cover filter purpose? (fryman)
I would say their is a pro.
I run a breather can off the valve cover and also the little filter, lets the engine breathe better instead of having it teed into the catch can, or intake. |
wow...
The pcv system will suck oil vaport back in through the intake. This can gum up the TB, and coat your intake manifold if you're getting a bunch of blow by. Sucking it back into the cylinders makes for a cleaner burning engine, but if you're getting a lot of blow by, you may not know it, and you're running a higher risk of detonation because of the oil. The cons of running a filter? A dirty spot on the bottom of your hood. |

Re: Valve cover filter purpose?
there for fresh air into pvc

Re: Valve cover filter purpose?
wow thats a old thread! now that I've been through so many setups since then. Pros would be breathe better, and keep blowby out your intake, Cons would be a messy ingine bay. in the end it is better to get a breather can.
