Type R block, head stud problem. Help!

hey everybody, so heres my problem, i just bought this type r block, full bottom end everything. problem is that the head studs need to be re-tapped. ive heard i can helo-coil them or get them re-tapped for 1/2 inch studs. here are some pics. if i need to post more detail close up ones i will. im not really sure what to do, my plan was to build this block for boost, sleeves, rods, pistons etc. so it kind of wouldnt hurt to do a big head stud, but then id have to get the head tapped like that too wouldnt i? anyways, what should i do? part out the block becuase its expesnive as hell to get it re-tapped or re-tap it? thanks!

no you do not need to resize it...what they mean is re thread it....you take a tap with the correct thread patch and run it through everyone of them...you just gotta find the right size..which i forgot what size it is but if i was at home then i could tell you...

when its at the machine shop for the sleeves, just have them do it for you. if your not comfortable with doing that kind of repair, that is.

It looks like someone already tried the heli-coil routine. Rethreading will not work. Thread-serting is your only hope.

ill look into that, im going to talk to a friend of mine that works at a machine shop and get the block taken apart and cleaned up. i think this block has potential if i can get it fixed.

I have lifted headstuds on two of my motors from boost. You have three options heli-coil, time sert, or going 1/2. If you are planing on running big boost just go half inch the only down side is that you have to have your head re-drilled to 1/2 also.

that and it will be very costly in the long run. Remember you will need to have your head gaskets machined to 1/2 inch aswell. I'd much rather just get it time-serted. OP, good luck.
