Troubleshooting: H22A swapped '91 Lude, no vtec, no CEL-thoughts?
Hey Everyone,
This is my first post in over a decade. Sorry for the hiatus, lol. I recently purchased a 91 Lude with a Euro R H22A swap. It needs some TLC and I have been tinkering away at it. However, last week while I was driving, I pushed it up to redline in 2nd gear and it popped on me... sounded like a crazy backfire... and the car died. When I check under the hood, one of the vacuum lines on the intake manifold popped off, the MAP sensor popped off, the ECT sensor connector came out, and the plug wire going to the bottom of the distributor all came undone at once! After I put it all back, the CEL went away, however now VTEC will not engage. Oil level looks good, but I have not changed the oil yet and don't know what the previous owner was using.Tested the solenoid and it works fine. The car is running a Buddy Club ECU with basic bolt ons. Does anyone know what my next step to get my VTEC back should be? Also, the car does not rev over 4K when in neutral. I thought maybe it was a limp mode thing, but it was like that before the popping incident and VTEC still worked. I am stumped.

re: Troubleshooting: H22A swapped '91 Lude, no vtec, no CEL-thoughts?
If anyone was wondering... I figured it out. It was a loose connection to the ECU going to the vtec solenoid. When I was checking the CEL and fumbling around under the glovebox I must have bumped it loose. Also fixed my dropping idle by grounding the valve cover to the frame.
Woot!!! Life is better with VTEC!

sounds like you need to check/clean/tighten all ground wires, especially the main one from the battery to the chassis and engine.
Also sounds like the wiring is hacked and I advise buying a quality swap harness
