transmission replacement myself

im thinking of replacing the transmission my self in a 98 honda civic ls., Now i know that the tires and axels must come out,.along with removing the control arm ,. but as far as that goes what else will i need to do other then linkage and what ive said,.,.im also aware of the torq converter bolts andhousing,.,.Other then all that what else am i forgetting that is not electrical plug ins??
For example will the trans come out thru the bottom? also is this a hard job to do..,

The problem this person has with the trans is that they would drive off and it would go 1st 2nd and then want to or actualy shift back down,.,.it is spitting out a code ill have to ask again what code it spits out but,.,.wouldnt some typ of silinoid for the trans on these cars afect shifting? perhaps this person does not need to replace it?? thanks in advace

you need a lot of info. i suggest you get a chilton or helms manual from a parts store. or use the search button and search for all the great info on it that honda tech has to offer.

Re: transmission replacement myself (gotfuel)

The first thing you should do is a have a trans tech diagnose that trans it might not be a trans problem, it could be electrical its giving you a code that code should be chased down to determine if its electrical or a mechanical failure if its electrical and you pull out that trans and install another trans your going to have the same problem and your going to be kicking your self in the butt for all that labor and money that you threw away.

Never attempt a major repair without a manual.

Get a haynes manual or the OEM honda manual to help you do the job.

It isn't hard but just time consuming https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif
