Transmission help
I am doing a Turbo GSR build, and everything is about rapped up except the tranny. I bought one off a forum, and took it to a local shop to have it torn down, get new bearings and bushing and such put in so it would be like new for me. Well the guy calls and tells me is pretty bad looking, so i pick it up and sure enough most of the gears are pretty worn down. My prob. is that i am finding it difficult to find a good GSR tranny in houston (believe it or not) so i am wondering if there are any high performance gear sets that i could get, if i am going to have to do a whoel rebuild anyway?

?

The Gears are worn down? You mean sleeve sets? You can rebuild them you know... I just picked up a free GSR tranny kid said broke, i took it apart and the changer assembly 10mm bolts walked themselves out. Some locktite and a new 4th gear synchro some 20$ in seals and the tranny is mint again.
Open it up, take pics of the damage and we can helpyou further |

Re: (EJ8 GSR-T)
infinitude makes gear sets, there about $580 a set
close ratio 3/4/5 yields a nice 2/3/4/5 set. however this is best with a 2.105 b16/itr mainshaft (2nd gear) if i were you, i'd get a b16 3rd and 4th. it's more than likely the dog teeth on the gears themselves that are worn out. you'll need a synchro sleeve kit as well. even with that said, it's still a costly fix. but fixing your transmission and KNOWING that the parts are in good condition is much better than buying a transmission that's been worn out. besides, you know you like the closer ratio of the taller gsr/ls 2nd gear and the shorter b16/itr 3rd 1.458 / 1.900 = OH YEAH JDM HOLLA RPM DROP !!!!!!! |

anyone else?

There is a transmission shop, which I believe is in Texas, called drivetrain.com. I found then when I was thinking of buying a tranny for my Prelude and they had a used one for somewhere in the range of $600 shipped.
