Tranny Problems??

hey, i think im havin tranny problems. It seems like its gettin harder and harder to get into gear. It still goes into gear fine, but it seems as if its gettin "choppy" going into gear, like its not as smooth as it was. i changed the tranny fluid and it didnt help any. I have 120k miles on a stock clutch and the throw out bearing is goin so im puttin in a exedy racing clutch. could this problem have anyting to do with the clutch, the reason i think it doesnt is because its always like that even when the car is off, when my foot is on the clutch or not. should i have the tranny checked out when i get the clutch in??? what could it be?? i hope its not expensive im runnin low on resources!!

Could easily just be a clutch problem man. If the clutch is really worn or isn't fully engaging, you bet you could get some choppiness going into all gears.

Typically, if a transmission problem consists of trouble or harshness going into EVERY gear then the chance of the transmission itself being bad is very slight. Check the clutch and clutch cable (if cable clutch) or clutch master/slave cylinder (if hydro clutch).

could be the clutch. i would replace that and start from there
if it still happens replace the fluid with redline MTF or honda MTF and see how it goes. you might want to flush the transmission when you change the fluid. (get a flush kit from checker, etc)
good luck

If it's a cable tranny, check your adjustment before you spend any money

get your tranny checked, before buying the clutch. just my 02 cents. and you said it's still hard to get in gear even if your foot is off the pedal and the engine is off. then there's a good possibility it's your tranny.

it's cheaper on your pocket to get one off an engine shop (a rebuilt one). you'll pay more for a new tranny or to get the tranny assembly fixed. anyways, it costs more if they replace it for you.

would u recomend gettin one of those or rebuilding mine??

Re: Tranny Problems?? (phatintegra)

get one fully rebuilt, you'd have to be really inclined, mechanically or ASE certified. plus think about labor costs. if you have a friend who has experience on trannies, that'll be better. like i said, i'm not sure if it's your tranny, it just sounds like your tranny's doing more work than the engine does. check for cylinder compression too(compression test).
