temp. problem...temp gauge needle bouncing up and down..

just like what the title says..but theres a little more to it..

i have an ls supercharged and about 3 days ago on the freeway i miss shifted 3rd to 4th https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emdgust.gif..rpms shot up to 8500 on a stock ls supercharged motor..i thought my motor blew for a moment but luckily it wasnt..i continued to drive but exited the next exit to check out if anything happened..as i was driving to the nearest exit..i noticed that my temp gauge in the car was bouncing up and down..it wasnt overheating or anything..it would stay at normal operating temp when i was on the gas..but when i let go of the gas..the needle would bounce between the normal operating temp back and forth to cold..car ran fine..just not super no more.. so question is..why is my needle doing that? could i have messed up my water pump? thermostat? or what? need help please! thanks to whoever in advance..

This is a new one for me... I have no idea. Sounds like a bad gauge, but it could be for real. Do you have another cluster to swap out to try?

no extra clusters laying around..ill try to check the ground and all that..

its weird because the car drives fine..the only thing is that the gauge bounces up from below half point back down to below C..and when its hot and im driving..it still does it but it doesnt go all the way to C..jus between half point and C..i dunno im stumped..

ANYONE ELSE PLEASE HELP! https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emdgust.gif

i know im bringing this back from the dead, but ive searched and couldnt find any answers, and instead of starting a new thread i decided to bring this back to life. Anyone have any ideas about this??

If it's a rapid bouncing, my guess would be electrical connection(s), or less likely, a faulty sending unit. A more gradual fluctuation could be coolant level/air in the system.

it seems to be like it moves up when i take off and when i slow down or brake it goes down to cold, so im thinking it might be air or coolant level. I was low so i added some yesterday. I checked again today and i am a little low again. There are no visable leaks, and i cant smell any coolant. what is the best way to get air out of the system?

hmm could be a couple of things possibly a faulty temp gauge or a blown head gasket. the best way to check is with a 4 gas and see if their is h/c's in the cooling system. my money is more leaning on the head gasket i have seen to many cars with the same problem and been a blown head gasket.dont go check for oil in the coolant or visa versa honda's and acuras Do Not Do that. only if the head is cracked then it will show the mix.

what do you mean? and also if it was the head gasket wouldnt there be other bigger problems that i would be noticing?

did a compression test today and i had a compression of 185 on all four cylinders. So im assuming i can rule out that its the head gasket?
