Temp Gauge fluctuating...

I have a 1995 GSR and the temp gauge tends to move around a lot when it is at normal operating temperature.

the car runs fine and everything, but it just irritates me that the gauge is reading dead cold when i have been driving for a half an hour continously.

it will go up and indicate that it is running at normal temp and then it looks like it shuts off completely and goes back to cold.

any one have any ideas what it could be?

If it's just doing it slowly, it's probably "normal" - my B18B1 does the same thing basically.

Sounds like low fluid or a bad thermostat. Sometimes it's a bad sending unit or fan sensor.

i checked the fluid and it is fine in both the radiator and the overflow, i was thinking that it may be the sending unit. anymore info on where this thing is located?

if the thermostat was bad would the car have over heating issues?

not always sometimes the thermostat is probably sticking and that's why the gauage goes up and down. First check the wire going to the sending unit and make sure the wire isn't broken are exposed also take out the sending unit and wipe it off, some times shit gets build up on it and it sends false readings. if every thing is good and your still getting the same problem , then change the thermostat. One of those things should fix your problem.

sounds like a problem with the guage cluster i had an electrical problem like that and just swapped out the cluster for an easy fix

The coolant temperature sensor for the ECU has a 2-wire plug. The sender for the gauge is smaller & only has one wire.

The VTEC oil pressure switch is on the VTEC spool valve, don't confuse that with these temperature sensors.
