stuck plug

I just was checking my spark plugs, and the plug to cylinder 1 is stuck. It is very tight, and when I get to a certain point it will be reluctant to move either way. Maybe someone stripped the threads before? Any ideas?

Re: stuck plug

I would try filling the plug hole part way with penetrating oil and let it sit overnight and see if that helps. One thing I like to do for things like this is use my 3/8" impact gun. When you use the constant force of a ratchet or wrench on a stuck fastener, eventually it will break. Obviously you don't want the plug breaking off in the head. Sometimes the rattling from an impact will loosen something that would normally break with a ratchet. You have to be very careful and have a light touch with the trigger if you try it.

If the car is running fine, don't mess with it until you have the time and money to fix whatever happens. There's a good chance the threads in the head will need to be fixed. Sometimes you get lucky and can use a spark plug thread chaser, but if it's bad you'll have to install a time-sert or helicoil.

Ditto the above ^^^, dump in some penetrating oil ,[MoveIt] and let it set overnight and try again.
Try tightening it first, then try removing it, maybe a little back and forth.

Not sure if I would try an impact gun, you would definatly want a "light touch" on the trigger or you will sheer it off in the hole. 94

Haha yeah you have to be REAL careful, but it has worked for me.

Re: stuck plug

i wouldnt recommend using a impact gun on a spark plug!

what i did was dropped penetrating oil in it for 2 days. came out with my 18 inch breaker car and just gave it one hard shove and it sounded like it snapped but it came out

As with anything, if you're not comfortable, don't do it. Another thing this works wonders on is seized caliper bleeders using my 3/8" electric gun.
