stubborn axle seal....

90 civic DX...first time doing an axel seal, didn't think it would be that hard be here we are. axle came out np, took a pick to it and I ended up just tearing it and having it just sit there...I've tried a flat head even went to harbor freight and bought a seal puller to no luck its now mangled and stuck. It almost as if its glued in or something. I understand its an old car but I didnt think the gasket would be that stuck. I know I can't gouge it but damn I wanna star scraping or something now

Any help would be appreciated its not like I can drive it like this :puterjoe:

Go back to Harbor freight and buy a 20-25in pry bar. Those seals can be in there really tight and you need some leverage to help remove them.

Also pay close attention to the new seal,so you can see where the outside diameter of the seal lies. It looks like youre just clawing away at the inside diameter of the seal.

^ I agree. Make sure whatever you use to pry with goes "deep" under the lip of the seal. The seal has a metal ring with a lip inside of it - this is what you need to be prying against.

If it's stuck that bad, likely, it is dry rotted.
